Min Kim

marketing-intern/deal-junkie

Min is a marketer and entrepreneur originally from Los Angeles. After graduating from the University of Chicago with degrees in Economics and Political Science, Min worked at a full-service ad agency managing one of the largest global CPG accounts. On nights and weekends, he also ran a profitable startup in the daily deals space helping local businesses maximize capacity during slow periods by offering limited number of real-time deals specific to the demand each local business faced at a given time. Min is first to admit that he is a deal junkie. He loves the Los Angeles Lakers, enjoys longboarding, and is a first time New Yorker (& absolutely loving it).

The Story

In Spring of 2010, Cheryl realized that she'd bought too many vouchers from various deal sites that she lost track of them. She found a quick solution and posted all of the deals she'd bought on her food blog, and discovered that other people had similar problems. She went on to build a prototype (a "tripit for daily deals") to solve this gap. Upon realizing that the deal space was catching on like fire and foreseeing vouchers as a new form of currency that needs to be managed, she decided to quit her job and build the "mint.com for daily deals" as you currently see on CityPockets. In Spring of 2011, CityPockets received seed funding led by Great Oaks Venture Capital and prominent angel investors in New York.
